Weighted grade = w1×g1+ w2×g2+ w3×g3+…

Grade Calculator Use this calculator to discover the grade of a course based on weighted averages. This calculator takes both numerical as well as letter grades. It also can calculate the grade required for the remaining assignments to get the expected grade for an ongoing course.

The calculators above use the following letter grades and their typical corresponding numerical equivalents based on grade points.

 Letter Grade GPA Percentage A+ 4.3 97-100% A 4 93-96% A- 3.7 90-92% B+ 3.3 87-89% B 3 83-86% B- 2.7 80-82% C+ 2.3 77-79% C 2 73-76% C- 1.7 70-72% D+ 1.3 67-69% D 1 63-66% D- 0.7 60-62% F 0 0-59%

The weighted grade is equivalent to the sum of the product of the weights (w) in percent (%) times the grade (g):

Weighted grade = wg1+ wg2+ wg3+…

#### Example

Math course with a grade of 80 and weight of 30%.

Biology course with a grade of 90 and weight of 50%.

History course with a grade of 72 and weight of 20%.

The weighted average grade is calculated by:

= wg1+ wg2+ wg3

= 30%×80+ 50%×90+ 20%×72 = 83.4

When the weights are not in percent (hours or points…), you should also be divided by the sum of the weights:

Weighted grade = (wg1+ wg2+ wg3+…) / (w1+w2+w3+…)

#### Example

3 points Math course with a grade of 80.

5 points Biology course with a grade of 90.

2 points History course with a grade of 72.

The weighted average grade is calculated by:

= (wg1+ wg2+ wg3) / (w1+w2+w3)

= (3×80+ 5×90+ 2×72) / (3+5+2) = 83.4
